In the past few visits to the mall, I realised it was the most fun place to observe people and watch their sweet, adorable, awkward and ‘not-so-public’ activities. It is almost like watching all the dimensions of a human personality.
The soul mates
We all have seen couples who look ‘inseparable’. They cling on to each other like there is no tomorrow. They are in love and have to tell it to the world. Annoying to almost everyone, it can especially get pretty awkward for people who have just had a break-up!
Under parental guidanceHave you ever noticed a teenager lost in his parent’s mobile phone or looking around lost in their own thoughts? Widen your horizon and watch, they must be accompanying their ‘busy-in-their-own-life’ parents. Parents of such teenagers keep forcing their choices on them and poor teens can only pretend to be interested.
Forever on honeymoon
There are couples in love and then there are couples who are forever on their honeymoon! All of us have noticed a couple that come dressed as if they are virtually in Bahamas. The red bangles clearly stating that they are still romancing the idea of being together, they just cannot get enough of each other.
Grandparents insisting to buy things for kids
‘Koi nai, le de usko’, ‘Iss bar le do fir nahi maangega’. This is among the many pleas that grandparents make to parents to shower love (read: gifts) on to their second generation. Even if parents decide not to spoil their kids with unreasonable demands, grandparents insist so much that it becomes embarrassing for the parents to not give into the demand. And do not forget to observe the over courteous salesman anxiously waiting at the parents to give a nod.
The eternal window shoppers
Even if you are getting a great deal, there are a few people who will walk into the mall only to ‘observe’ the trends. They love to intricately survey each outfit and are also most enthusiastic as far as the trips to the trial rooms are concerned. What’s most disappointing is that they will never buy anything.
Salesman stalking you through the store
This is the most irritating category. The moment you step into the store they will be over enthusiastic to attend you. They keep stalking you through the shelves and every time you pick an outfit, they will not spare a chance to drop in their valuable advice about the colour, fit or latest trend. Can someone tell them that I’m NOT their appraisal manager?
It doesn’t matter if you are wearing a revealing outfit or not, this category will pop their eyes out to scan you anyway. They are in the mall only to ‘see’ things around. They are not there to shop or to spend time in a cafe, in fact, it seems they are the ones you dressed up for this morning. Phew!
Like a lost soul in this busy world, these people are like slow vehicles in the high-speed lane. They can anytime bump into you or if you do, can give you some serious stern looks. You will never be able to figure out what they are there for!
